Testimonials

Please accept this orchid as a token of our appreciation. During the recent treatment of the cataract in both eyes of Joki we have observed and enjoyed the way in which you treat your patients. Definitely not as “customers” but as living people.

Also without any pressure you brought us to the decision to opt for “restor” rather then regular lenses. Joki now can see very well at distances and does not need reading glasses. To her that means a great improvement in her way of living. We both thank you for that.

Seeing something clearly is important. Certainly when looking at something so beautiful as flowers can be.

We hope you both will enjoy this little gift from us to you.

Jean Pellegrini
Her AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL Experience

Patient Jean Pellegrini, Florida, had to wear glasses for almost all activities of daily living and recently suffered from cataracts. Fed up with the bother of her cataracts and the hassle to read recipes and small print, taking off glasses and putting them back on to read, Mrs. Pellegrini visited Dr. Pourkesali, an ophthalmologist specialized in implanting the AcrySof® ReSTOR® intraocular lens (IOL).

As Dr. Pourkesali describes, AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL is an innovative lens for cataract patients with or without presbyopia. Presbyopia occurs when the eye’s natural lens loses its ability to accommodate or “flex” and hampers people’s ability to see or read near objects, forcing the need for reading glasses or bifocals. It’s not rare for patients like Mrs. Pellegrini to develop cataracts and presbyopia; everyone will develop the condition at some point in their lives. In fact, an estimated 90 million people in the United States either have presbyopia or will develop it by 2014.

Mrs. Pellegrini chose to have AcrySof® ReSTOR® implanted in both eyes, and had the lenses implanted just a few weeks apart. she didn’t need her glasses in between the surgeries, and most definitely doesn’t need them today.

Mrs. Pellegrini says there is nothing she can’t do since she got the AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL implanted in both eyes. she can read, write, drive, shop and do just about any activity with no problems.

Dr.Pourkesali is amazed at how the new lenses are making his patients lives simpler.

Dr. Pourkesali states that patients are able to continue with their lives and participate in just about any activity with out being hampered by their old glasses.

Mrs. Pellegrini thinks that all candidates who qualify should consider getting this new lens.

“ I simply feel fantastic with my new eyes. My only regret is not having them sooner in my life.”

Sandra Ladd of Palm Coast, Florida wearing contact lenses enjoyed walking, biking, playing golf wearing contact lenses and using “cheaters” to help her read and do close up work. In 2008, Sandra began to notice a difference in her vision and correcting her contact lens prescription did not improve her vision. It had become harder to read clearly and her vision seemed cloudy, even with her glasses or contact lenses. Concerned, Mrs. Ladd went to her ophthalmologist,Dr Pourkesali, to find out what was causing her vision problems…She was found to have cataracts and presbyopia at age 62.

“In the early stages of cataracts, stronger lighting and eyeglasses may lessen vision problems caused by the clouding of the lens. As a cataract progresses, sharp images may become blurred, seeing things at night can become more difficult, and the glasses (or contact lenses) that used to help people like Sandra see, or do other simple tasks, may no longer seem to help,” said Dr. Pourkesali “Once the cataract impacts an individual’s quality of life, surgery may be needed to improve vision. This treatment involves removing the cloudy lens and replacing it with an artificial lens.”

Dr. Pourkesali told Sandra about the different choices she had when selecting an intraocular lens (IOL). An IOL is a lens that is implanted in your eye during cataract surgery, to replace the natural lens that has been affected by the cataract. The options are a multifocal IOL, an astigmatism correcting IOL or a monofocal IOL. “The vast majority of patients who undergo cataract surgery today receive monofocal IOLs, which typically require them to use reading glasses or bifocals for near vision following surgery,” Dr. Pourkesali says. “The good news is that IOL technology has taken a giant leap forward. Now, the objective is not simply to improve patients’ distance vision, but rather to enhance their vision with an IOL that fits their individual needs. With multiple lens options, patients can select the lens that best supports their lifestyle.”

Dr. Pourkesali says the most dynamic multifocal lens is the AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL, a lens that treats both cataracts and presbyopia – another age-related condition that hampers people’s ability to see or read near objects, forcing the need for reading glasses or bifocals. In clinical trials, four out of five patients who received AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL in both eyes reported never wearing their glasses or bifocals following surgery.

Previously, patients with pre-existing astigmatism had to wear glasses following cataract surgery in order to correct it. Dr. Pourkesali says that with AcrySof® Toric IOL patients can correct their astigmatism during cataract surgery, allowing them the possibility of being glasses free for distance vision. Clinical trial results showed that 97 percent of patients achieved freedom from glasses for distance vision when the AcrySof® Toric was implanted in both eyes.

In addition to new IOL technologies, there is an advanced cataract removal system which allows physicians to customize the procedure to their individual technique and each individual patient. This flexibility increases the potential for obtaining better surgical outcomes and safety than with traditional cataract removal technologies.

Sandra states: “It’s been over six months since my eye surgeries and I am thrilled with results. Now I can see near and far without the use of my glasses or contact lenses. THANKS DR P.”
